Episode 16: My Traumatic Birth Story
Hey Loves,
I have never really talked about my birth story. I have seen so many people talk about how beautiful their birth stories were and I expected mine to be the same however, my birth story was a bit different than what I expected. This is my story.
Signed,
A Healing Mama
Things They Don’t Tell You About Giving Birth and How To Be Your Own Advocate
Have a plan. No matter how prepared you are or how many plans you have, always have a contingency plan if your plan A-C doesn’t work.
Have someone there whom you trust. I know it sounds crazy but if you can, have someone there who can be your voice if you can’t speak up for yourself. Let them know what you want for your birth plan so they are able to articulate those things to the doctors for you.
It’s best to have things in writing and notarized prior to your labor and delivery.
Understand that although the doctors have tons of information, you must be clear and understand your rights and your body.
Know that there is more than one way to give birth. If you need to change positions in order to allow your body to DO IT’S JOB, do it.
Birth on your back ins’t the only way to give birth. There are many positions. Before picking a facility to give birth, talk to them about your options in birthing positions as well as alternatives in medication.
Hospitals get paid more when you get a Cesarean “C-Section” and sometimes doctors can be pushy when it comes to that so know your rights and listen to your body.
Don’t be afraid to tel them NO. It is ok to look for alternative positions or medications in order to delivery safely and comfortable.
Sometimes the epidural just doesn’t work so learn about other medications or other ways to help ease the pain.
It is ok to change your mind about your birth plan. If something is not working, you can absolutely pivot and try something else.
Give yourself grace, patience and lots of positive words of affirmations. You got this mama.
